It's wonderful to meet you! I am Megan
Why I became a genetic counsellor
I am passionate about empowering individuals to understand the factors and complexities that contribute to human genetic variation and genetic conditions. I believe that fostering a deeper understanding of these factors can drive significant improvements in global health and wellbeing.
Speciality
My current area of focus is oncology, though I also have a particular interest in the prenatal space. As a general genetic counsellor by training, I provide counselling across a broad range of healthcare areas, including adult, paediatric, oncology, haematology, neurology, and prenatal services.
Education & Training
I am a proud Wits graduate. I started my studies by completing a BSc in Molecular Cell Biology, followed by a BHSc (Hons) in Human Genetics and finally wrapped up my studies with an MSc (Med) in Genetic Counselling.
I completed my HPCSA internship in the Division of Human Genetics at the National Health Laboratory Service and The University of the Witwatersrand in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. During this time I was trained in clinics at various state hospitals across Gauteng as well as the Wits Donald Gordon Hospital.
